Relaxed Family & Dog Portraits
Studio Established 2008
Getting family photos organised often feels harder than it should. Many parents worry about whether the children will cooperate, whether everyone will feel comfortable in front of the camera, or whether the whole experience will feel awkward, rushed, or stressful. Quite a few Lutterworth families tell us they’ve put it off for years – not because they don’t want the photos, but because they’re worried that after all the effort, they still won’t end up with artwork they’d feel proud to display in their home.
That’s exactly why our family photography sessions are designed to be calm, private, and fully guided from start to finish. Our purpose-built studio is right here in Lutterworth, offering a quiet, distraction-free space with no pressure to perform and no stiff posing. Instead, there’s time, patience, and gentle direction so everyone can relax and simply be themselves. When families feel at ease, genuine connection follows and those moments naturally become beautiful framed wall art you’ll enjoy seeing in your home every single day.
Once you book, we make everything feel straightforward. You’ll get simple guidance on what to wear, how to prepare, and what to expect so you arrive feeling relaxed, not unsure. Because the studio is private and appointment-only, you’ll know you’re coming into a calm space with the whole experience planned around your family.
Visited John recently with my partner and our two young daughters (5 & 2). Despite our daughters not wanting to sit still, he got great photos we’ll cherish forever.

Your session is led by John at a child-friendly pace with gentle direction throughout. There’s time for children to settle, time for breaks if needed, and a calm approach that works even when kids (or dogs) do their own thing. The aim is natural connection, portraits that feel like you.
The actual photo shoot was the most relaxed I have felt for a long time with my 2 children… He got us to enjoy time together and have a laugh.
Jermaine Thompson
A few days later, you’ll come back to the studio to see your images presented on the big screen. This is the fun part, choosing the photographs you genuinely love. There’s no pressure and no hard sell, just clear help if you want it and space to decide what’s right for your home.
“I have gone back today to view the pictures I honestly found it very hard to pick. His work is amazing and its left me feeling emotional in a good way. His prices are reasonable and affordable.
Callum Barry
This is where your portraits become part of your home, not something that lives on a phone. From beautiful framed prints to statement wall art, we’ll help you choose finished pieces that suit your space, so your family memories are enjoyed every day and treasured for years to come.
We love our photos — there was so many great ones to choose from, John really captured our little pocket rockets…

Getting a family photo organised shouldn’t feel like a military operation, but for most parents, it does. Worries about children cooperating, feeling awkward on camera, or the whole thing turning into a rushed, stressful event are exactly why so many families put it off for years.
In our Lutterworth studio, the experience is designed to remove pressure from the start. You don’t need to know how to pose and you don’t need everyone to be “perfect”. Your session is calm, private, and fully guided with time for children to settle, space for breaks, and gentle direction throughout. Even if your little one is full of energy (or your dog decides today is the day to be extra enthusiastic), you can still relax knowing we’re used to real families not models.
Because it’s appointment-only, you’ll have the studio to yourselves. That quiet, distraction-free space makes a huge difference: families relax sooner, genuine connection comes through, and the portraits feel natural. And we don’t create images just to live on your phone — the goal is finished artwork: beautiful framed pieces and wall art you’ll actually enjoy seeing in your home every day.

Want to feel even more prepared? Here’s our guide: 👉 Tips for a Stress-Free Family Photoshoot
Hi, I’m John, the photographer behind John Jenkins Photography. I’ve spent over 30 years photographing people professionally, and I opened my dedicated Lutterworth portrait studio in 2008 after a decade working full-time as a wedding and portrait photographer. Since then, I’ve photographed thousands of families and dogs — which means I know how to work calmly, patiently, and confidently with real families, not models.
Family photography is about far more than technical skill. It’s about reading people, knowing when to slow things down, when to bring the energy, and how to help everyone feel comfortable in front of the camera. Whether you have shy children, energetic toddlers, teenagers who’d rather be anywhere else, or a dog who doesn’t always listen, I know how to adapt the session so it still feels relaxed and enjoyable.
I specialise in family and dog portrait photography, creating natural, unforced images designed to become lasting wall art in your home. Every session is private, fully guided, and photographed by me personally from start to finish — so the style you see on the website is exactly what you’ll receive.
I’m a member of the British Institute of Professional Photography (BIPP) and the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers (SWPP), professional organisations that uphold high standards of skill, ethics, and professionalism. Combined with over 140 five-star Google reviews, and my own experience as both a parent and a dog owner, everything I do is focused on giving you a calm experience and portraits you’ll genuinely love living with every day.

Family life doesn’t pause. The expressions you love, the laughter, the way everyone fits together right now all change more quickly than we expect. It’s often only later that families realise they wish they’d captured this stage properly while it still felt like everyday life.
Creating your family portraits sooner means you get to enjoy them sooner, not tucked away on a phone, but displayed in your home as beautiful wall art. Images that quietly make you smile, remind you what matters most, and become part of your family’s story every single day.
Because we photograph a limited number of families, availability is always finite. If you’ve been thinking about booking “one day”, this is your sign to do it while this moment still feels like now and turn today’s memories into artwork you’ll love living with for years to come.

I believe that a truly unforgettable professional family portraiture Lutterworth is about more than just capturing smiles — it’s about creating real moments and lasting memories in a setting where you and your family feel completely at ease. It’s important that when you look at the photos you remember how you and your family were feeling because it’s that emotional memory that really lasts and really makes something special. In my experience, its the difference in the experience that makes the difference in the result.
Your session will take place in our purpose-built studio, which is perfect for families who want an experience that’s calm, fun, and free from distractions. A place that’s perfect for families that really place an importance upon preserving those important milestones of life.
Unlike busy high-street photo chains or multi-shooter franchises, here you’ll enjoy a quiet, private environment where your family can be themselves with the whole studio to themselves. A shoot personally led by me, John Jenkins, a professional photographer with over 30 years of experience (and the grey hair to prove it). A session that’s all about you, not a production line. Lastly, a selection of professional products that will satisfy even the most discerning client.
Two outfit changes
Two background changes (including our dramatic black backdrop)
We begin with a fun and engaging session, perfect for younger kids and families who want to ease into the experience. We play games, chat, and keep things flowing naturally — so you can relax and just enjoy being together.
Then we transition to a more focused and emotional session using a rich dark background. These are the portraits that truly stop people in their tracks — powerful, expressive, and timeless.
Just a few days after your shoot, you’ll return to the studio for a cinematic viewing session. This is when you’ll come back to the studio for a personal viewing, where I’ll help you choose your favourite images.
I edit your photographs and present in an HD movie format projected onto our big screen. It’s an emotional and joyful moment for families to see their images brought to life — often with laughter, sometimes with tears.
From there, you can select your favourite images and choose from:
Elegant classic frames
Contemporary wall art and canvases
Stunning albums
Flexible digital formats
From handcrafted wall art to framed prints and albums, everything I offer is designed to complement your home and style. There’s no pressure — just honest guidance and space to decide what you truly love. All the decisions are yours
At larger Leicestershire photo studios, you never know who will be photographing your session. But at John Jenkins Photography, it will be me. Every image on our website was taken by me — and I’ll be the one photographing your family too.
Other studios may offer flashy deals or fast-paced shoots with limited time and less personalisation. But I don’t do rushed. I take my time and let your family ease into their photography session. I want your whole experience, not just the photos, to be enjoyable and memorable.
Have a four-legged family member? I love dogs — and I’m one of the few family photography studios in the Leicester area that specializes in both family and dog photography. So you’re welcome to include your dog as part of the session.
